I received a call about a year ago from Nancy, the mother of the bride. She said my daughter saw your website and loves your work and would like you to photograph her wedding. A few weeks later when Abbey had time to take a break from work we connected. Probably one of the most relaxed brides I've ever worked with when planning a wedding. In fact it wasn't until 24 hours prior to the wedding that we really knew where and when the wedding would be as the weather was throwing some curveballs at their date. With 9 wedding party attendants in tow and a 50+ guests we ended up at the original destination, the fountain at New Orleans Audubon Park. It was a perfect day for a wedding and the photographs. Slightly overcast emphasizing the rich colors of the perennial garden surrounding the fountain overlooking St. Charles Avenue and both Loyola and Tulane Universities with a backdrop of giant Southern Oaks and waterways.
I actually met Abbey for the first time at the Hotel Maison Dupuy on Toulouse Street in the French Quarter. There was a great song playing as we arrived decked in camera-gear, so well, I broke out in dance. My own personal secondline entered and as I looked up there was this beautiful blonde bombshell in a full length pastel sequined dress. I stopped in my tracks. We looked at each other. I said "You must be my bride" and she said "I hope you are my photographer!" We smiled and hugged.
The beginning of a great wedding day.
And the moments... well there are some great ones.
Dustin says Abbey is an animal hoarder so we had to stop and visit any critters along the way (no complaints from me!) One of my favorites was when the NOPD officer pulled over his car to ask where the groomsmen picked up their suits and to take pictures for his own wedding. And of course the ultimate photo-bomb. I just hate it when brides photo-bomb my mules!
As a side note to all brides I wanted to note her colors were plum, turquoise, teal and light gray, in all honesty the best color scheme ever for photographs in my opinion. However, her calla-lilies turned out black. She made mention of the black flowers and goldish dress saying "hey, its saints colors!" without missing a beat.
My advice, let the good times roll and don't sweat the details. Plus it didn't hurt Miss Abbey is a therapist.
We rode with the bride and her bridesmaids via white limousine. Some of the most beautiful photographs of Abbey were in the limo as the excitement built. The ceremony processional was planned by Dustin, her fiance.
He and the guys arrived 45 minutes early to plan it out.
I can't believe how smoothly this wedding went.
It just flowed. After the ceremony we did group shots and some artistic portraits then traveled via private streetcar to the French Quarter where the wedding party and couple took to the streets for candids, celebration and more artistic portraits.
Taking a little break before the cocktail hour at Arnauds Restaurant I wandered around photographing some of the architecture and scenery which I give each couple. These will later be fine art exhibition work and a little treat to remember their day. My husband, also my occasional assistant, parked his tush at Arnauds 75, a wonderful cocktail bar with some of the coolest art and decor.
Meeting up for final candids and portraits on the balcony overlooking Bourbon Street with its neon signs and high energy music capped off a beautiful day with two of the coolest people I have ever met!
