How to be the Bride's Best Friend

This is probably one of the most important posts I've ever done. This is specifically for family and friends of the bride to be. I want to you to read this. Share it. Do it.

The bride is stressed.

Always.

Often it doesn't show because she is a strong woman used to working with adversity. You, as family and friends, need to realize that your best intentions are quite frequently stressors. I've calmed so many brides trying to deal with kids, family and well-meaning friends. From the start of planning to the day-of, there will be temptations on your part to suggest ideas, traditions, etc. - please be judicious.

And most important of all, it is your job is to give the bride space and free time ALONE without kids and chatter the day of her wedding

I have spent countless hours consoling brides-to-be because family and friends are making her crazy. Many of my couples are joining two families so there are several kids of varying ages who need to be dressed and wrangled. That is the gift you give the bride. Dress the kids, bring things that keep them occupied, remove them from the room for an hour, give her some 'me' time to relish her upcoming vows.

A few more suggestions where you can help the couple have a stress-free and good memorable day:

1. As mentioned, dress the kids.

2. Take the kids for a walk.

3. Don't rush the bride. Keep an eye on the time but be wary of rushing her. Pick up the room if there is a photographer coming to do 'getting ready' shots.

4. Gather her details, shoes, rings, veil, you know the cool stuff she shopped for late at night looking for the coolest accessory. The photographer will want to take photos of those items.

5. Do not shake her confidence! If you are a helpful yet critical friend, think before you speak. Rephrase your words.

6. Again the most important part of the wedding day is you. How you help and deflect stress is the best gift you can give her so she can truly enjoy her upcoming vows.

Sorry for the lecture, but I see this way too often. It is unnecessary and while always well meaning it can ruin a bride's day.

So get out there team!

If she's crying tears of joy you succeeded and did your job beautifully. Thank you from the bride who doesn't want to hurt your feelings but who REALLY appreciates your help!
