Many wedding couples choose to do second-line parades led by a brass band. It is a New Orleans tradition. There are several reasons why I recommend them when appropriate.

Guests and family who come to New Orleans are usually expecting a lot of fun and a second-line parade is probably the most fun because your guests get to BE the parade. Following behind the brass band playing traditional New Orleans music, dancing to the beat as passerbys wave and often join in is a truly unique experience they will talk about for years.

Another reason I like to recommend a second-line parade is this is when I capture so many amazing candids of you and your guests.

Real, not manufactured moments.

And who wouldn't want to be led by a band in a parade celebrating your wedding? It is also a great transition from ceremony to reception. Here are a few random photographs from past weddings' second-line parades in New Orleans.

Some important information you should to know:

1. You will need to hire a brass band first.

2. Many can arrange your permits as you will need a police escort for your parade.

3. If the band isn't able to procure the permit you will need to contact The City of New Orleans for permits.

4. Parasols for the bride and groom are also a tradition. Those can be obtained through many websites.

5. And of course second-line hankies! Buy some plain ones and DIY personalization or order some online.

6. And lastly... wear comfortable shoes! Unless you are a high heel diva!
